The Flamboyant holds a special significance for the people of St Maarten as Its blooming coincides with the end of slavery on the island. The fiery red blooms breathe life into our beautiful island landscape every summer.
Flowers are symbols of love, happiness, prosperity, and romance.
I add a twist to the traditional still life by incorporating island themes and bright colors.
My island is a special place. These scenes depict different aspects of life from selling produce at the market to the simple pleasures of sitting on a beach chair watching the ocean.
I'm also a musician and love depicting scenes from my other creative passion
The first ever St. Maarten Carnival took place in 1970 on St. Maarten?s Day which is the 11th of November. It initially started out as an initiative by the Oranje Committee to celebrate the island and attract tourism.
I started out on watercolor when I was about 8 years old. These pieces take me back to the days when I sold my little paintings to the tourists that would visit the hotel where I lived.
